Evacuations were ordered in the Tampa Bay area after Hurricane Ian traveled toward Florida. It is projected to become a Category 4 storm, so National Guard troops are on standby. 4. California Makes Human Composting Legal
California, along with Washington, Colorado, and a few other states have made composting humans legal. The governor signed a bill that will go into total effect by 2027. In the compost process, the deceased is put in a vessel. That vessel is then covered with wood, alfalfa, and straw so that microbes can process and tear down the body into nutrient-rich soil. 5. Protests in Iran Surge after Death of 22-Year-Old that was Apprehended by Police
The death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian woman, caused an uproar of protests after she was detained for violating hijab and dress code rules. Her family has made allegations that she was beaten by police. Around 41 people have been killed in the protests following Amini's death, and protests continue as Iranian President threatens civilians who disrupt the peaceful environment. The Washington Post
6. New Social Media Challenge Uses Nyquil as Chicken Broth
The Food and Drug Administration advises people not to use Nyquil to cook chicken after the "sleepy chicken challenge" surfaces the internet. The trend challenges people to cook chicken in Nyquil "broth", but boiling the medicine can cause dangerous vapors to be emitted and a change in the concentration. 7. Currency in England Set to Experience Change
King Charles III will now be printed on banknotes after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. The currency with the Queen on it will still be eligible for use, but the King is expected to be the face of England's bills by 2024. E News
8. Adam Levine Denies Accusations of Having an Affair
A model by the name of Sumner Stoh provided screenshots of texts between her and Adam Levine, saying that she had an affair with him that lasted for about a year. In one of the messages, Levine even asks to name his son (whom his wife was pregnant with) "Sumner". After this surfaced the internet, multiple women have presented screenshots of Adam Levine messaging them inappropriately. A crisis among the youth in America is mental health issues. The cause of death most prominent in youth is suicide; nearly 20% of students have suicidal thoughts. The resources for the increase in mental health disorders are limited, with only one in five children with a disorder seeing a medical professional.
